With
the arrival of Louis Van Gaal at Old Trafford, came the arrival of big money
signings for the Red Devils. Manchester United squad which once was so much dependent on its home grown players, is now changing their transfer policy
after the arrival of their new manager. Under the management of Sir Alex
Ferguson, the Red Devils criticised heavily on teams which spend big. Before
this transfer window, the highest amount of net spend by the Red Devils in a
single transfer window during the last 10 years was £41.3 million in 2011. And that was not even half of what Van Gaal
has splashed so far. Now they are going for the same way towards glory which is
adopted by their neighbours. In the summer transfer window, Manchester United
have a total net spent of £122 million.
And this is how Van Gaal used to operate his
former teams. He is a manager who likes to have big names in his squad and he
can pay big bucks for that purpose. And whenever he fails to do that, his team
struggles. It seems that sometimes, his luck is associated with the money he
spends.
Van
Gaal was one of the most successful managers in Ajax history. After serving his
jubilant career with Ajax, he decided to manage Spanish Giants FC Barcelona.
FC Barcelona 1997-2000:
Van Gaal spent a lot of money during his first spell at Barcelona. He won two league titles for the Spanish side. This was the first time he was coaching a rich team and he made a proper use of funds available to him.

FC Barcelona 2002-03:
An
interesting stat to Gaal’s transfer policy is that whenever the Dutch Manager
made low money signings, his team struggles. And similar was the case with
Barcelona when he was appointed their manager in 2002-03 season. He made
signings of worth £10.12 million. And due to poor results, he left the club in
January, only 6 months after his 2nd stint started at Nou Camp.
Luis Van Gaal spent just 10million pounds in transfer market in
2002-03 season, he was later sacked!
Bayern Munich 2009-11:
When his era started at Bayern Munich in 2009, Van Gaal was back to his best in terms of transfer’s expenditures. In his first year, he spent £65 million with net spent of £45.5 million. And he won the League double that year.

In his 1st year at Bayern Munich, Van Gaal won the
League double after spending 65million pounds in transfers.
During
his second year at Bayern, he was once again humble in terms of transfer fees.
And after an unsuccessful season with the German Club, he was sacked on 10
April 2011.
So
Van Gaal’s spending spree is a good omen for Manchester United. The United Boss
has almost renovated the squad inherited from David Moyes and is ready to make
Manchester United one of the most feared teams in England once again.
