Premier
League side Arsenal are still keen on Sporting Lisbon defensive midfielder
William Carvalho according to Metro.
The Gunners are planning to make a move in the Winter Transfer Window which will be opened in January.
Chelsea
was also interested in his services in the summer window but failed to conclude
any deal. Despite of big links made with the Portuguese midfielder he decided
to stay and continue to serve Sporting Lisbon.
The Gunners boss Arsene Wenger had been following the 22-year-old midfielder throughout
the summer but failed to conclude any deal. The French manager who planned to
sign a defensive midfielder will continue his pursuit in the January Transfer
Window.
It is also reported that Arsenal’s representatives will meet Sporting president
Bruno de Carvalho who is currently in Manchester for the Soccerex
convention.
According
to Carvalho’s contract, he has a £37million release clause but reported revealed
few weeks ago that he could be available for a fee around £22million.
Few
weeks ago he told when he decided to stay in Portugal: “I
have a deal with Sporting and I am a player of Sporting”.
He
has made 36 appearances for the Portuguese side since 2011. He has capped seven
times for his country Portugal, two of which were earned at the World Cup in
Brazil.
