After
weeks of speculation of “will he, won’t he” Paul Labile Pogba has put this
on-going transfer saga to an end by completing a record breaking switch to his old stomping ground Manchester
United for a staggering 110 million pounds including add-ons. His transfer fee
has eclipsed the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Neymar to name a
few. With new Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho stating his last summer signing
would be a ‘very good midfield player’.

Pogba
the new number 6 for Manchester United put pen to paper yesterday signing a
five year deal with the English giants which will see the Frenchman earn a cool
290,000 pounds a week. His agent Mino Raiola will pocket almost 20 million
pounds from this deal which makes both Pogba and him surely very happy with the
way things have gone.
The
Frenchman was ecstatic re-joining his club saying that Manchester United has
always been a club with a special place in his heart. The current boss was also
happy with the deal going on to say the Pogba will only improve and get better
as he is young and will make his position here is own for many years.
This
deal has definitely pleased the supporters of United creating a sense of euphoria,
optimism and hope for them as they believe with this addition their team along
with the special one can go to achieve greater success in the coming years. But
there are others who feel the price tag for Pogba is not justified with bosses
like Jurgen Kloop and Arsene Wenger taking a dig the substantial amount of
money being spent for a 23 year old.
Paul
Pogba you could say it’s like a Cinderella story coming up in the youth ranks
with Manchester United and playing just seven games under Ferguson who felt he
had no place in his United squad was sold for less than a million to Juventus
and in his spell with the Italian giants goes on to win 4 consecutive Serie-A titles
and reaching the finals of the Champions league losing out to Barcelona and win
2 Italian Cups in the process make himself a key player for the Bianconeri and also
a pivotal player for the France national team and come back to his old club
being worth hundred times more than what he was sold for.
With
a plethora of huge clubs who were interested in signing the French star
including the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG to name a few, the Frenchman
chose United a club which has been struggling since the great Sir Alex Ferguson
had stepped down, struggling to break into the top four failing to qualify for
the Champions League this season, a club which used to fear many when they
stepped into the Theatre of Dreams. Was Pogba’s move influenced by the fact
that Jose Mourinho “the Special One” was appointed as head coach or because the
Frenchman would earn a substantial amount of money in his time as a United player?

Nevertheless,
what the circumstances for Pogba’s move to the Red Devils were, his move has
strengthened United’s midfield which has certainly lost its bite since Paul
Scholes and Ryan Giggs retired. Ander Herrera and Morgan Schneiderlin have been
average, Bastian schweinsteiger riddled with injuries in his debut season and
looks unlikely to get any game-time this season and with Carrick unable to play
many matches in a season because of his age, it seems it would be a new lease on
life for United supporters with the addition of Pogba would not only add youth
but also his exceptional vision, ball control, his long range striking and his
physical strength in the middle of the park which he displayed during his time
at Juventus. More importantly it would see United skipper Wayne Rooney play in
his preferred position which is behind the striker the number ten role rather
than the middle of the park which he has been playing for quite a few years
now.
With
a mammoth price tag comes huge expectations and it will be only be a matter of
time if Pogba’s transfer fee will be justified. The whole world, be it neutral
or United supports will be watching closely to see how Pogba performs on the field.
Will his addition to the United squad strengthen the Red Devils or will he just
be an overpriced footballer, the footballing world will find out very soon when
the new season kicks off next week with Manchester United taking on Bournemouth.
