La
Liga side Athletic Bilbao are planning to sign Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal
in the summer, according to Spanish media AS.
Athletic
Bilbao president Josu Urrutia has admitted that he is eyeing several top full-back
in the Premier League including Nacho Monreal of Arsenal and Cesar Azpilicueta
of Chelsea.
Urrutia
told AS: “There was interest from
Athletic in players, although it was focused on Illarramendi. There are not so
many players: [Asier] Illarramendi, Raúl García, [Nacho] Monreal, [César]
Azpilicueta.”
Urrutia told that they have targeted several players including Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi.
Illarramendi has been strongly targeted by the Premier League sides in the past transfer window.
Arsenal’s
Monreal has been linked with a move away from Emirates last month but boss
Arsene Wenger denied the links by saying that he is an important part of us and
is going nowhere. The Spanish full-back has been impressive for the Gunners in
the central role too.
Athletic
Bilbao did not sign any player in the winter window but are determined to bring
several stars in the summer to boost their squad for next season.
They
are currently sitting on 11th spot with 23 points in the La Liga
table.
