Paulista
is a 24-year-old central defender, keenly linked with Arsenal lately. He plays
for Villarreal and has been integral for their unbeaten run since November. He
is quick and sharp but is also good in the air. Much like Laurent Koscielny. He
has also been deployed as a right back which points not only to his
versatility, but is also indicative of his quickness, agility and ball control.
He perhaps isn’t good enough to overthrow either Per Mertesacker or Koscielny, but
would be a terrific backup for either.
Winston Reid:
Reid
has been at the heart of the West Ham defence for quite some time. He is a big
defender known for his athleticism despite his size. He is 26-year-old and has
immense experience on his side. Not only does he know the Premier League inside
out, he is also captain of the New Zealand national team.
Reid who also won West Ham’s player of the season in 2013 is a very reliable presence at the center of defence and would fit in the Arsenal squad instantly.

Mattia Destro:
Another
player on the Arsenal radar is Mattia Destro. He, however, isnt a defensive
player. Destro plays as the striker for AS Roma. At 5ft 10 inche, he isn’t the
tallest but he is quick and likes to play off the shoulder of center-backs and
likes to stretch the defence. He is also good at positioning himself and
finishing off chances. He doesn’t have the best disciplinary record, but with
already pacey players abundant in Arsenal ranks, another striker with pace
would be a frightening addition.
