Premier
League duo Manchester United and Chelsea both have been given a blow as
Atletico Madrid defender Diego Gdoin clearly denies a chance to move to
England.
Reports
suggested that the two English sides were keen on the Uruguayan centre-back but
with his latest comments they will have to look for other targets.
The
28-year-old said: “At this point, I feel that I’m in the best time of my career
and I still see my retirement very far.”
He
also added “I would like to stay many years here [at Atletico Madrid].”
“But
it is true that I also have an attraction from my country and at any point in
the future I would like to return to Uruguay, to respond to the love they have
showed me during this years.”
He
further made it clear that he will leave the Spanish side one day but only for a
return to his homeland (Uruguay). But he will try to stay as long as he can at Atletico Madrid.
Godin
has been a regular centre-half for the La Liga side since his move from Villarreal
in 2010. He helped Atletico to lift the Spanish League title after 18 years
last season.
Manchester
United boss Louis van Gaal has already targeted his teammate Miranda for a January
move, and earlier today reports revealed that United will offer €25million.
Chelsea
boss Jose Mourinho has not been in link with any other centre-back. Borussia
Dortmund defender Mats Hummels was linked once and the Portuguese boss might
reignite his interest in the World cup winner.
It
is more a bad news for the Red Devils as they are in urgent need of a fine
centre-back due to the injury problems.
