Arsenal
youngster Gedion Zelalem is set to represent United States rather than World
Cup winning country Germany.
Arsenal midfielder Gedion Zelalem has been granted US Citizenship and he is likely to represent
them at international level, according to Washington Post.
The
German born player who played six years at Washington DC youth academy was in Washington
yesterday to complete his process.
The
only thing Zelalem needs now to represent USA is the approval from FIFA who are
not going to block his desire to play for USA. Although he can still paly for
Germany and for his family country Ethiopia.
The 17-year-old is eyeing to play for Jurgen Klinsmann’s side in the Olympics in 2016 and Russia World Cup in 2018 .
Despite
of the German roots, the midfielder wants to play for USA where he has spent several
years.
Zelalem
has made two appearances for the Gunners, recently against Galatasaray in a Champions
League group game.
The
teenager has played for Germany under 15, under 16 and under 17 sides and
has been impressive but now USA are set to land him for their under 18 side.
Zelalem can become the vital playmaker which USA have always lacked if Arsenal groomed him in a right way.
