After
two costly mistakes against Manchester City, the debate has been surfaced again
that whether Simon Mignolet is capable to keep a lid on Liverpool’s goal this
season. The Belgian was not good enough once again when Manchester City thumped
Liverpool by 3 goals to 1. His positioning and goal keeping in 1st and 3rd goal
was far from convincing. With his derogatory performance in only the 2nd match
of season, now it’s a tough task for Brendan Rodgers on whether to put his
blind faith on the Belgian for such a long and important season to come.

On
one side, when Chelsea have Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois, Manchester City have Joe Hart and William Carballero, Arsenal have Wojciech Szczesny and David Ospina, Liverpool FC have only Mignolet. Chelsea have two of the World’s best Goalkeepers in their ranks,
Manchester City bought Carbalerro to pose a tough competition for Hart. So does
Wenger did with Ospina and Szczesny. The Belgian just have Brad Jones as a
serious competitor for number one spot. And Brad Jones is simply not good
enough to stand in goal for Liverpool. After selling Pepe Reina to Napoli, it was
questioned whether Mignolet will be able to transform all his flaws from last
season into an impressive performance this season. But the Belgian has
disappointed many with his performance against Manchester City.
Last
season, Liverpool fell just short of Premier League title. And the sole reason
for that was lack of defensive contributions. On one side, their defenders were
putting up a dismal show game after game, Mignolet made matters no easier for
his team on the other. He made league high 6 errors leading directly to goals
last season. Mignolet is an excellent shot stopper but he do looks shaky when
it comes to grab crosses. This season,
with the arrival of new defenders, it was believed that it’ll greatly help
Mignolet to improve his performances from last season. But sometimes, one needs
serious competition to raise the level of his game. And same is the case with
Mignolet. Last season, Joe Hart wasn’t in top form either. He made 4 errors.
But Pellegrini had a replacement for him unlike Rodgers. And when the English
Goalie reverted, he turned all this fortunes around. So it’s a proper Goalkeeper what Liverpool needs before the end of transfer window to raise the
level of their Goal keeping staff. And it’s the need of the hour for Merseyside
Reds if they want to pose a serious attack on Silverware.

I have never had confidence in Mignolet! Maybe some may laugh at me, but I believe Leicester's goalkeeper(Kasper Schmeichel)is going to be one of the top goalkeepers in the near future.
ReplyDeletei dont think so about Schmeichel coz he is already 27
