He
came by plane, Regular British Airline travel, with his name already embossed
in gold letters as he leaded Porto to Champions League glory and the first season at Chelsea made amends for his decision to leave the European Champions as it was
the 1st time in 50 years that Chelsea landed a Premier League title. However
since taking a U-turn in his career and by becoming the "happier-one" and by
already scoring (15) goals in (4) matches this season, a debate is set to arise
that which style suits the Portuguese more.

In three seasons where Mourinho remained as the mentor of Real Madrid, his team won 1 league title against one of the best Barcelona sides ever. However if you look at the number of goals scored during the 3 year period in which Mourinho was given charge, 102,121 and 103 were the number of goals scored by his team in 3 seasons of La Liga respectively. So although he didn’t won much there, he ensured Real Madrid stick to the standards they have set for themselves for long-long times.
Now
comparing this stat with his Chelsea side before and after joining the
Galacticos, you see an altogether picture there. Although he won more trophies
being a Chelsea manager with 2 Premier League titles, still the highest number
of goals scored by his Chelsea team is 72 drastically smaller than what he used
to do at Real Madrid. However just look at the other side of picture.
Being
known worldwide for appointing defensive tactics “before the start of this
season”, Jose Mourinho Real Madrid side never accomplished the feat of golden
glove winner in their team. In the 3 seasons he remained at the Santiago
Bernabeu, his side were always 2nd to Barcelona in terms of goals conceded, so
that might be described as the reason why he won just 1 major trophy for the
span of his 3 year residence there.
During his 3 year tenure at Madrid, Jose Mourinho side was
always 2nd fiddle to Barcelona in terms of goals conceded!
Turning
our attention to Chelsea now, apart from the opening season for Mourinho at
Bridge his team were always the front runners as they always conceded the
lowest amount of goals bar the 2003-04 season in which Arsenal were above them.
Giving credit to Mourinho or to the ever green Petr Cech, Jose Mourinho Chelsea
sides are the most frugal team the Premier League has ever witnessed in terms
of goals conceded.
So
the question arises that has Mourinho changed his approach or the new boy in
Courtois is still finding life difficult at the Bridge. Because since the start
of this season, they have managed just 1 clean sheet in all competitions
scoring 16 goals in the process.
Now
if you keep the above mentioned stats in mind while keeping the trophies won
during those respective periods, history shows Jose Mourinho sides have won
more when they conceded the least number of goals, not when they scored most.
So apart from praising the high flying Costa and new comer Cesc Fabregas, Jose
Mourinho should sort out the demons in his team’s defending this season if
Chelsea want to win something big this season.
nice article!
