In
this early season fixture while Manchester United have shown their muscle in
the transfer market already, it was believed that 1st win under Van Gaal was
crucial and it seemed to come at the right moment. After making their worst
possible start in a Premier League era, United needed a defining performance
and they got just that when they put 4 past the new-comers QPR. Although 3
points were crucial for Van Gaal, more crucial was how the new signings perform
and looking at the performances of Marcos Rojo, Angel di Maria and to some extent Daley
Blind, they have performed really well in this particular fixture.

Here
are the 4 things we learnt from Old Trafford today:
Di Maria is brilliant:
After
un-impressing Manchester United fans at his debut for United, Di Maria made
amends with a scintillating display today. For a player who was Champions
League final man of the match last season, Di Maria performed brilliantly today
to justify his price tag. Although it was only QPR still Di Maria showed the
hunger that was lacking the whole last season. By providing 2 assists and 1
goal in this match, Di Maria seemed like an Angel for his fans.
Van Gaal has changed:
For
a manager who has already won Championships wherever he had gone with his
not-so-nice to eye formation, it seemed early that Van Gaal would not change
the formation that has never been successful in the Premier League before.
However as they say Champions learn from their mistakes, Luis Van Gaal played a
4-4-2 formation which eradicated the mistakes the 3-5-2 was forth coming with. As
a result, players felt more comfortable adjusting under the new manager and
ultimately United thumped the result.
Van Persie is still missing:
If
you have told me last season that United have scored 4 goals and Van Persie
didn’t even managed an assist, you might have been described mental. However
since coming back after injury, Van Persie hasn’t been the same this season so
far. This match was a perfect spectacle for the Dutch forward to open his
account for this season however, it seems now that Falcao threat might not do
any good for Van Persie whose position will be in danger sooner than later now.
Defence is still the problem:
In the 1st half when the score was 1-0, Swansea forward got past De Gea with only a late block from Jonny Evans saving the Spaniard’s blushes. Defense is still a problem for athe Manchester side that conceded 2 shots from inside and 4 from outside the box with nearly all of them being dangerous for De Gea. Therefore, this needs to be looked into deeply because a good team with a nice chance conversion rate won’t have missed these chances.
