When
the 13 times winners of Community shield from North London met against the 4
time Champions Manchester City, it was said that defeat was a word not terrible
for both teams. While both teams fielded their 2nd best teams at
Wembley, both of them were experimenting before the Premier League season
starts. However, still this match has given us an indication of how these teams
might fare next season.
Here are 5 things we learned from the Wembley encounter:-
Here are 5 things we learned from the Wembley encounter:-
This is only the 2nd time Manchester City have
conceded 3 or more goals in any of their last 34 games.
Sanogo is a hard-worker:
Having
scored four goals against Benfica in Emirates Cup, set uo the two goals for Arsenal and making his presence felt, Sanogo showed why Wenger
started with him in place of Giroud. He isn’t a Luis Suarez, Robin van Persie or even
Olivier Giroud, but if given the chance he will work hard for his team - - even
by sacrificing himself - - which certainly isn’t a quality for a striker. That
doesn’t mean he should be starting every match for the Gunners, but in
important matches he can be a far bigger asset for Arsenal than his
counter-part Giroud who wasn’t a big game player last year for certain.
Arsenal have depth - - - At-last:
Watching
a team that had no Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker, Alex Chamberlain, Theo Walcott
and Thomas Rosicky in the starting eleven, one thing is for sure that the current
Arsenal side will not be easy pushover for any Premier League giant this
season. While they were playing a second fiddle Man City side who weren’t enjoying
their main stars on the pitch, still they were way better than they were at
this stage last season and keeping a track of matches they have to play
up-front in the league, they have indeed enough firepower in their ranks on and
off the pitch to keep every other team in-check. Last season when they lost Aaron Ramsey in January, their title bid was bettered but if anything similar happens
to any of their star player this season, they might cope it differently this
season.
Debuchy >>> Sagna:
While
the first 20 minutes didn’t give enough indication to applause this point, the
last 25 minutes of the first half indicated the Frenchman might become a leader.
Starting from a block of Samir Nasri shot from 10 yards out which certainly was a
goal in the making, crisp passes followed by good crosses from difficult positions
indicates Arsenal have got a good deal in the Frenchman. While this is only the
1st competitive match for the former Newcastle man, still it can show a glimpse
of how he will fare when players like Walcott and Ozil will link up with him.
Szczesny had a great game:
While
everything gone perfect for the Arsenal attack in this match, their Polish
goal-keeper was tested time and again and mostly in the second half by City. Just
before Giroud tripled the lead for Arsenal, it was their goal-keeper who made
two timely saves both from Stefan Jovetic in order to keep the citizens adrift
of come-back. So one thing is said for sure that with the signing of goalkeeper
David Ospina into the ranks, last season Golden Glove winner Szczesny’s
performance has only gone a notch up in this important match.
Aguero is must for City:
On
a day when Liverpool put 4 past the German League runners up Borussia Dortmund
showing Luis Suarez as a distant memory, City were left to rue what they already
have. After having 4 star strikers in their team with three of them at Manuel
Pellegrini dispense, it was shown once again of how important is the Argentine
is to the English Champions. In a summer where they have spent in mid as well
as in their defense, an attacker wasn’t the priority. However, looking at the
form both Dzeko and Jovetic are in, a 4-4-2 formation with Aguero as a
spear-head is must for Manchester City.
good one, sanoga was strong, and sanchez was also good.
