The former Valencia and Barcelona striker who won La Liga with Atletico Madrid scored 13 goals in 36 games in La Liga for the Vicente Calderon side.

Manchester City own the MLS side who have already agreed to sign Frank Lampard.

The 32-year-old had an impressive debut season at Atletico, won La Liga and reaching the Champions League final.

Villa’s impressive performances in the recent season has given him another chance to appear in the World Cup for Spain this month which might be his last World Cup.

Before moving to Madrid he scored 48 goals for Barcelona and 128 for Valencia. He is also the Spain all-time leading scorer with 56 in 91 games.
