The former Chelsea and Liverpool midfielder is currently a free agent as he left West Ham last month. The 32-year-old played 20 games and scored 3 goals for the Upton Park side.
Cole started his professional football at West Ham before his move to Chelsea then Liverpool and after playing 10 seasons away from West Ham he then rejoined on a free transfer from Liverpool in 2012.
The English man also spent a season away from England on loan with French side Lille.
While Aston Villa are eager to land their second summer signing, they have already signed former Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos.
Last
season, Cole didn’t get enough time on the field due to which he planned to
leave the Hammers.
Cole
said: “My relationship with West Ham is great, but obviously it didn't work
towards the end of this season and I didn't play enough. So, I'm just going to
take my time over the summer and find the right fit.”
Cole
obviously eyeing more playing time which he could not get at Upton Park.
The
Englishman further added, "At this stage of my career, finances are not
important for me. I want to enjoy my football, I want to compete and I just
want to play more."
