According to reports in Spain, Manchester United are leading the race to sign €25million former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song from Barcelona.


Barcelona defensive midfielder Alex Song joined the Catalans in 2012. Arsenal received £15m from Barcelona for the Cameroon international.

Since his move, he has been struggling to get a permanent place in the starting eleven. He has appeared 65 times in Barca jersey in two season.

The 26-year-old who won a La Liga is also keen to return to Premier League as he is well aware of his new boss Luis Enrique’s plans that he is not a part it.

Local Barcelona newspaper Sport suggested that Manchester United are showing serious interest in his services. But the fee demanded by Barca is exceeding United’s limit.

Red Devils new boss Louis van Gaal is keen to solve United’s defensive problems. Van Gaal might be considering Song for a center back role as they have lost their two main defenders Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand last month.

Song is an experienced player, especially he has a vast experience in Premier League. He played more than 200 games for Arsenal during his seven years of stay.
