Vermaelen has ruled out a move to Old Trafford. The Belgium international is strongly eyed by new Manchester Untied boss Louis van Gaal.

After the departure of defenders Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, United are looking to fill the gaps with reports linking Arsenal captain Vermaelen with a move to United as a replacement of any one of them.

The 28-year-old center back told: “I know there has been a lot of talk and a lot of rumours but the only thing I can say is that it's not true.”

Vermaelen who has one year left on his Arsenal contract appeared only 14 times for Arsenal in Premier League last season.
