NED became Karachi champions after beating Karachi University
(KU) on penalties in the final of the Intervarsity Football zonals 2014. NED
made a record by beating KU for the first time in the history of football.
In the start, NED football team were not given the permission to
play the tournament but with all the hard works of the players especially
captain Waqas Ahmed, Vice-captain Jamshed Umar and Danish Ali Sattar who made the team capable of playing such competition. All three of them acted as coaches, they gathered students, held training sessions for this event. The players are
thankful to all of them.

First
match against Iqra University
Iqra University have never won against NED and this
time again NED were successfull in maintaining their record as they won 1-0 and knocked them out in the first round of the
tournament. Thanks to Hassan Naqvi for scoring such a
beautiful goal in the 60th minute.
Semi
Final against Hamdard University
This was an important match as NED were eyeing to
qualify for the tour of Lahore to play All Pakistan Intervarsity tournament.
NED scored twice to secure their place in the finals. Ahmer Saeed's sublime
volley in the first half from 30 yards took NED in the front of the race, while
his fellow Haris Somro made it 2-0 after a finish which was misjudged by
Hamdard’s goalkeeper Saad Afzal.
Final
the rough and the tough one against KU
Today NED made a history, they beat KU 4-3 on penalties
after taking a match to a 0-0 final score.
NED exceptional defence line kept clean sheet in all
the three games that gave captain Waqas the best goalkeeper award of the tournament.
NED left back Usama Naeem said, “A team without coach, a
Team without facilities, a team without resources yet a team with self-belief,
a team that was self-motivated, a team that had the will to prove themselves to
all, and by the grace of ALLAH we did ALHAMDULILAH. NEDUET are the new zonal
champions, we did what even the best could not deliver beating Karachi
University in finals and keeping a clean sheet throughout the tournament.”
Now NED will be flying to Lahore to play All Pakistan
tournament in the mid of March.
