Former
Lazio, West Ham United, Aston Villa and Everton midfielder has revealed that he
is a gay.
Hitzlsperger
played 52 games for Germany and announced his retirement last year because of
injury.
He
told in an interview with Germany magazine that it has been a difficult procedure.
In last few years it began and he would prefer to live with a man.
The
former BPL player also added that he does not know any player in Germany
who is a gay. He revealed it because he wanted to move on with this discussion among
professional athletes.
"I've
never been ashamed of the way I am" but told that it is difficult to
tolerate those comments that are against me.
Whether
it is in England, Italy or Germany, homosexuality is not considered as a
serious issue, especially in the dressing rooms, according to him.
While
Swedish footballer Anton Hysen (Son of ex- Liverpool defender Glenn Hysen),
told about his homosexuality in 2011 in an interview with a Swedish magazine.
In
1990, Justin Fashanu also revealed it and became the first professional
footballer in Great Britain to reveal his homosexuality.
While
looking on the other side of Sports Tennis legendary player Martina Navratilova
revealed in 1981.
Former
Wales’ rugby player Gareth Thomas and England Cricket team wicketkeeper Steven
Davies also announced it few years ago.
Olympic
gold winner boxer Nicola Adams revealed in November 2012.
And
at the end of last year Tom Daley revealed his homosexuality.
