Tottenham
Hotspur have been called as an irresponsible after letting their goalkeeper
Hugo Lloris to continue even after the head injury in a 0-0 match against
Everton at Goodison Park.
The French international goalkeeper collided with Everton striker Romelu Lukaku from which the goalkeeper lost his consciousness, initially the keeper looked set to be replaced by Brad Friedel.
The
treatment Lloris had for his injury brought nine minutes of injury time at the
end of the match. After the treatment he was fully determined to start again as
Andre Villas-Boas allowed him to continue rather than to replace him.
Luke
Griggs, Headway spokesman said that when a player suffers a blow to the head
that is severe enough for him to lose consciousness then it is vital to provide
suitable medical treatment to him immediately.
A
physio or doctor simply cannot find the severity of the injury on the field. By
allowing the player to continue, the injury may become more serious. He should
have been replaced immediately and taken to hospital for some serious tests and
observation.
AVB
told BBC that it was a big knock but he was looking composed and determined to
play, showed great personality and character that was the reason AVB didn’t replace
him.
FIFAs
chief medical officer Professor Jiri Dvorak oppesed AVB decision by saying that
according to the governing body's guidelines, Lloris should have been replaced.
Belgian
forward Lukaku was warned for the challenge and he was replaced shortly after
the incident because of a little knock he felt in his knee. It proves that it was
a big collision.
It
is a 99% chance that losing consciousness during a match will result in
concussion.
Later
after returning to London on Sunday, Lloris had a scan which showed no signs of
concussion.
