Manchester United could beat Real Madrid in signing Nemanja Matic from Benfica as Los Blancos are planning to meet Xabi Alonso’s demand.

Real Madrid have long ago been alerted of the Benfica’s star man and were planning to make a bid in January as they were lacking in the midfield but now they have planned to offer Alonso a new contract according to the his requirements. And that should give United a chance to lead the race. Now with Alonso, Madrid would not be keen to land the Serbian at Bernabeu.
Reports are also saying that Napoli and Chelsea are also in the race to sign Matic.

While Alonso is demanding a two year extension plus an increase in wage roughly £4.2million per year to stay at Bernabeu, Madrid are now happy to meet his demand, according to Spanish reports.

Liverpool and Chelsea’s hopes have taken a severe blow as both the Premier League sides were interested in the 31-year-old.

The Spaniard has been linked with a return to Liverpool and a move to Chelsea as his former boss Jose Mourinho wants him at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho who has worked with Xabi during his three year spell at Madrid is a huge admirer of him. The Portuguese coach was ready to offer a well-paid three-year contract to persuade him to join the Blues in the coming transfer window.

Liverpool were also watching the situation closely but now it looks like that Madrid will fulfil Carlo Ancelotti’s wish of keeping Alonso in Madrid.

Will still Madrid look for midfielders?
