England skipper Steven Gerrard has been ruled out of
England squad to face South American side Chile at Wembley this Friday. The 33
year old suffered a hip injury during the match of Liverpool against Fulham
last week.
Frank Lampard will definitely be the first choice to
replace Gerrard as captain, but the 35 year old is struggling with a cold which
could leave the England boss with a captaincy problem.
While Wayne Rooney is the second one to take the
armband if Lampard is not fit to play.
Michael Carrick will be out for four to six weeks due
to Achilles
problem that will cause great trouble in the midfield as experienced players
are injured.
While there are many more players who are sidelined
due to injuries, Tottenham Kyle Walker was also forced to miss the training
today. England manager Roy Hodgson should not be worried regarding the young right
back as Liverpool’s Glen Johnson has returned from an injury. Hodgson has a lot
of variety right backs in his squad, Manchester United duo Phil Jones and Chris
Smalling are also named in the England squad to face Chile.
Chelsea’s Ashley Cole, Everton’s Leighton Baines and Arsenal’s
Kieran Gibbs are available on the left.
Meanwhile, Southampton forward Rickie Lambert is
hoping to prove himself in this match to get his place booked in the squad
before the coming World Cup which will be held in June 2014, Brazil.
Southampton two star players Adam Lallana and Jay
Rodriguez are selected for England squad for the first time.
Tottenham young gun Andros Townsend is also keen to impress
and continue his form to get a regular birth in the starting lineup.
