Southampton keen on Virgil van Dijk

The Scottish side are keen to keep their star defender and they believe that their qualification to the Champions League would convince the player to stay for atleast this season.

The Saints have been eyeing him for the past several months. The reports from SkySports revealed that Southampton’s captain Jose Fonte is keen to bring the Dutchman as he said that it would be a great addition to the squad. Fonte is confident that they can secure his move before the summer window ends.

However, Celtic manager Deila has clearly told in the past that their star player is not for sale.

Virgil van Dijk has made 110 appearances for Celtic since his move from Groningen in 2013.

Van Dijk is reportedly happy at the Scottish club and is eyeing to play in the Champions League campaign which will start in November.

Former Scottish footballer and current expert Andy Walker believes that the 24-year-old defender would love to play Champions League football.

The reports further added that the Saints are planning to offer £7 million which is considered as a low amount for the defender.
