Arteta has already missed the major part of the season with his back to back injuries, he is still struggling with his ankle problem and is expected to be back in April. He has only made 7 Premier League appearances so far this term.

Arteta’s agent Inaki Ibanez revealed it on the media that his client has agreed a deal, thanks to Arsenal for giving him a contract extension.

Inaki told: “Mikel is no longer free next June, because he now has an extra year on his contract.”

The Gunners signed him from Everton for a fee around 10 million pounds on the deadline day in 2011 since then he has scored 16 goals in 135 appearances for the North London side.

The 32-year-old signed a four year deal in 2011 which was expiring in the coming June.

However, the deal is not revealed officially on Arsenal’s website but Evening Standard reported earlier today that he will not be a free player this summer.

Evening Standard believe that his talks with boss Arsene Wenger has certainly impressed him, else he would be leaving on a free transfer this summer.
