Top 5 Football stars who have never played a World Cup: Eric Cantona (France), George Weh, George Best, Ryan Giggs (Wales), Alfredo di Stefano (Argentina and Spain).

There are many big names who have never appeared for their country in a World Cup, some failed to get a name in their country's squad for a reason and some fails in the qualifiers.


Below are the top five footballers who have never played a World Cup:

Eric Cantona (France)
The former Manchester United forward Eric Cantona is one of those big name who failed to appear in the World Cup. The 48-year-old retired footballer played more than 200 games for Manchester United during his six years of stay. He made 45 appearances for his country France but failed to play a World Cup as France couldn’t qualify during his reign.

George Weh (Liberia)
George Weh is the only African player to win the FIFA World player of the year award (1995). He played for clubs Monaco, PSG, AC Milan, Chelsea, Manchester City and Marseille during his 15 years of professional career. The 48-year-old former striker played 60 games for Liberia.

George Best (Northern Ireland)
Another Manchester Untied star who made a name at club level but failed to shine at international level due to a weak side. He played 37 games for Northern Ireland from 1964 to 1977.

Ryan Giggs (Wales)
Ryan Giggs is the third Manchester United player named in this list. The Welshman played 24 seasons at Old Trafford making more than 950 appearances for them. For Wales he played 64 games but failed to qualify for the World Cup.

Alfredo di Stefano (Argentina and Spain)
Alfredo di Stefano is the fifth highest top scorer in the history of Spanish League. The former Real Madrid striker scored 307 goals in 396 games for Los Blancos. He played for two different countries Argentina and Spain. For Argentina he played only 6 games while for Spain he made 31 appearances but failed to play a single World Cup. 
Spain never qualified during his time while Argentina had a chance but they refused to participate in 1950 World Cup.
