Rankings are based on performance, number of matches played, trophies won and etc. Here are the five top defenders of Arsenal.

It is always difficult to choose five players for such type of article as big teams have many great players like Arsenal. Here I have selected five best defenders out of many top defenders. Four of them are English while one is from Ireland.

Arsenal’s top five defenders of all time

Rankings are based on performance, number of matches played, trophies won and etc.
Here are the five top defenders of Arsenal.

5. Martin Keown (1984-1986 and 1993-2004)
The 47-year-old Englishman spent two spells at Arsenal first from 1984 to 1986 and second was from 1993 to 2004. Keown who also played as defensive midfielder made more than 350 appearances for the Gunners in his thirteen years of stay at Arsenal.

·        FA Cup – 3
·        UEFA Cup Winners' Cup – 1
·        FA Community Shield – 3

4. Lee Dixon (1988–2002)
After signing for Arsenal in 1988, Dixon spent fourteen successful seasons in London. The former England international played more than 600 games, scoring 28 times for Arsenal. Lee Dixon was one of the best right back of his time.

·        League Cup – 1
·        FA Charity – 3
·        UEFA Cup Winners' Cup – 1

3. Sol Campbell (2001–2006)
Another English defender is included in this list. Despite of his short stay of only five years as compared to the others, he still deserves to be in this list because of his great services for Arsenal. The backbone of the Invincibles squad played 49 games in the unbeaten 2003-2004 season. The solid giant 6 ft 2 in center back played 197 games and netted 11 goals.
Honours
·        Premier League – 2
·        FA Cup – 3
·        FA Community Shield – 2

2. David O'Leary (1975–1993)
Eighteen seasons at Arsenal no doubt is a big achievement. O'Leary made 722 appearances in the Gunner jersey which is a club record. He was not the smartest defender nor the best leader and even he was not the part of Invincibles but still he is one of the greatest defender in Arsenal’s history.
Honours
·        First Division – 2
·        FA Cup – 2
·        League Cup – 2

1. Tony Adams (1983–2002)
So here is the number one deserving player in all aspects that is number of appearances, number of trophies with Arsenal, qualities and much more. Adams started and ended his career at Arsenal. He played 672 games during his nineteen years of stay at Arsenal.
Honours
·        First Division/Premier League – 4
·        FA Cup – 3
·        League Cup – 2
·        FA Community Shield – 3
·        UEFA Cup Winners' Cup – 1
